We have been working hard, and can't wait to share what we've been up to!

We have a great summer and now we are more than half way through our fall cycle, with girls in Brooklyn and the Bronx preparing for their culminating showcases. We want to thank you for the support you have given - whether you donated to our mission, partnered with us, volunteered your time, or shared this newsletter. Your support keeps us enthusiastic and energized about the work ahead.

Girls Rise Up is our two-week summer camp that serves young girls in the NYC area. This past summer, Girls Rise Up served girls from over 20 NYC schools. The girls were challenged to create technology-infused dance routines with a small group of their peers. We were joined by internationally renowned and America's Got Talent contestant, iLuminate, who used their light suits to teach code and dance. Each day was kicked off with a guest speaker from the world of STEM; geologist and dancer Breanna Gribble, marine biologist and TED fellow Dr. Ayana Johnson, and Sasha Alston, author of "Sasha Savvy Loves to Code", to name a few.

Participants then split into groups to create their performance, either assembling circuits, writing code, or creating choreography. To close out the day, they came together to celebrate and encourage each other. Watch the video below to view the creative process yourself!
"I think that it's really important for girls to learn more about STEM because we are a very underrepresented group in that field. I will admit, it's a great idea to bring something that is already typically considered as being "fun," such as dance, meanwhile teaching us that STEM is just as fascinating." - Jonay, Girls Rise Up Alum
88% of our students reported having a deeper understanding of, and interest in STEM careers. 97% believe they have the potential and ability to succeed in a STEM career. We are delighted with the girls' progress and are eager to grow and expand the program next summer.
