About the role

As the Program Director, you will boldly lead the programmatic activities at STEM From Dance. To do this, you will coach and develop the leadership of your instructors to become stronger culturally responsive educators, resulting in meaningful academic and personal growth for our students. You will also take ownership of the program sites by partnering closely with schools and community organizations and offering programming that is the best fit for their students. Collectively, your work, along with the rest of the STEM From Dance team, will impact hundreds of NYC students and inspire a new generation of engineers, scientists, and techies.

About STEM From Dance

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, but it means much more than that. STEM is the science of using data and information to solve some of the world’s greatest problems. It features some of our country’s most high-impact and innovative jobs, yet it is greatly lacking in diversity. STEM From Dance gives girls of color access to a STEM education by using dance to empower, educate, and encourage them as our next generation of engineers, scientists, and techies.

key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Implementation of STEM From Dance curriculum (40%)

    • Manage the implementation of the curriculum at school residencies and the summer program

    • Ensure students are getting a supportive, high-quality educational experience

    • Oversee the administration of evaluation tools and analyze student performance data to identify areas of success and growth

    • Provide additional project support, as needed

  • Management of instructors (40%)

    • Manage, coach, and develop 6-10 instructors

    • Recruit, train, and on-board new instructors

    • Observe instructors’ teaching and providing feedback and coaching

    • Drive and develop a supportive and inclusive culture among instructors

  • Cultivation of partnerships (20%)

    • Act as a liaison between STEM From Dance and partner schools and organizations

    • Ensure smooth, efficient, and successful execution of programming at sites

    • Build partnerships for new program sites

Qualifications

  • Quantifiable success as a K-12 classroom teacher and three or more years of experience highly preferred

  • Experience working with colleagues in professional development settings, including facilitating training sessions, coaching and/or giving teachers feedback highly preferred; experience directly mentoring new teachers preferred

  • Work experience with or educational background in science, technology, engineering, and/or math highly preferred

  • Experience in a professional work setting outside of the classroom for one year or more preferred
